How to Style Large 24x36 in Prints
A 24 × 36 inch print can give a room a clear focal point. The best position depends on the wall, the furniture and the frame you choose. Measure the finished display first so the size feels right in your home.
Understand the size before choosing a spot
A 24 × 36 inch print measures about 61 × 91.4 cm before framing. In portrait orientation, the shorter side is the width. A frame or mat can make the finished piece larger, so use the actual outer dimensions when planning the wall.
A set is a different-sized arrangement. Three portrait prints of this size have a combined print width of 72 inches, before adding any frames or gaps. Measure the whole group instead of assuming it will fit above a sofa or bed.
How to plan a large print
- Choose the wall. Look for clear space around the furniture, doors, lights and switches. Consider the picture from your normal sitting or standing position.
- Check the frame. Confirm its picture opening fits the exact print size. Measure the outside of the frame, including a mat if you plan to use one.
- Try a paper outline. Cut paper to the finished frame dimensions. Position it temporarily with a method suitable for your wall and check the scale from across the room.
- Adjust the position. If the print goes above a sofa or console, centre it around that furniture as a starting point. Leave useful clearance rather than forcing a fixed height rule.
- Hang securely. Select hardware for the wall type and complete frame weight. Follow the fixing instructions and check the final position with a level.
Ideas for different spaces
- Above a sofa: use one print if it gives the wall enough presence. Compare a wider group only after measuring the full arrangement.
- Bedroom: choose colours you enjoy alongside the bedding and leave clearance around the headboard and lights.
- Hallway: a portrait format may suit a narrow wall, provided the frame does not obstruct a doorway or frequently used area.
- Gallery wall: use the large print as your starting point, then try smaller frames around it on the floor.
Choose the frame and paper
Black, white and wood frames give different edges to the same artwork. Compare the frame finish with the room rather than assuming one style suits every print. Frames are purchased separately.
